Discovering your WHY
The question I am constantly asking myself is, “How can I best contribute to the world?”
While I believe it’s something the continually changes, here are some questions that help me to reflect.
What gets you out of bed in the morning, or keeps you up late at night?
What makes you come alive?
What kind of person do you want to be known as?
What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want to be remember for?
How will you measure your life?
What are your innate strengths?
Where do you add the greatest value?
What things do you constantly find yourself doing throughout your career?
What aspect of your career have you enjoyed across all your past work experiences?
When do you feel most productive?
What do you prioritise over everything else?
What kind of work feels effortless to you, but drives your curiosity to learn more?
What issues do you hold close to your heart?
Is there a problem or challenge that emotionally moves you to take action?
What were you passionate about as a child?
What is on your bucket list?
What is the most rewarding thing you’ve ever done for someone else? Why was it rewarding?
What kind of conversations do you have with your closest friends?
How do others describe your impact on their life? (Things people have specifically thanked you for, words your friends use to introduce you, stories of times you helped your friends or family that they bring up repeatedly)
If you had all the time in the world to volunteer, who would you volunteer for?
If you had a free month and none of your normal responsibilities, how would you spend it?
What moments in your life have been the hardest? Why?
When have you felt a sense of meaning?
When your work is at its best, who are you serving?
When you look at your past, what are some of your proudest moments?
In what environments do you feel the most at ease, the most comfortable in your own skin?
When was a specific time you collaborated on something that was impactful?
What was a challenging experience that helped shape who you are?
What was an experience that taught you a valuable life lesson or changed the way you look at the world?
What has been a pivotal moment in your life when you realised nothing would be the same again?
